Tallinn Airport saw increase in pax volumes

In September, Tallinn Airport provided its services to over 311,000 passengers, which is by 10 per cent more than during the same period last year. The largest number of flyers was served on the Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Stockholm routes.

The number of passengers continued to grow on the Berlin, Stockholm and Riga routes. “There is tight competition between different carriers on the Berlin as well as Stockholm route and low ticket prices facilitate travelling to these destinations. Although, at the end of October the winter time schedule will take effect, which means that Norwegian will suspend its flights to Stockholm and EasyJet to Berlin and Milan, the competition on these routes will still remain also during the low season. The airlines flying to Berlin in the future are AirBaltic and Ryanair, and Stockholm route will be served by LOT/Nordica, AirBaltic and SAS. So, I believe that the passengers have plenty of options for finding a suitable flight schedule and airline on these routes,” Eero Pärgmäe, the Commercial Director of Tallinn Airport said.

Increase in the number of passengers was also supported by the direct flights that Wizzair opened to Georgia in September.

Altogether, it was possible to take direct flights from Tallinn to nearly 36 different destinations. The most preferred destinations were Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Stockholm, to which 40 per cent of the passengers of the Tallinn Airport fly. The average seat occupancy on regular flights was 76 per cent in September, while the same figure was 71 per cent in the same period last year.

AirBaltic that has the largest flight volumes provided services to 21 per cent of the passengers, LOT/Nordica 13 per cent and Ryanair 10 per cent in September. Altogether 20 per cent of all passengers used the low-cost airline segment.

Twenty different charter flight destinations were added to regular flights in September, the most popular of which were the holiday resorts in Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece, being characteristic to the season.

In September, 2488 passengers travelled through Tartu Airport, being nearly 13 per cent more than during the same period last year. The Finnish airline Finnair flies six times a week on Tartu-Helsinki route.
