Tallinn Targets “One Of A Kind” Cargo And MRO Hub

Tallinn Airport is pushing ahead with plans to build a new cargo and MRO hub despite the ongoing financial constraints caused by COVID-19.
According to Riivo Tuvike, operating restrictions and loss of demand meant the airport was forced to make “very hard and fast cost-cutting” in the second quarter of 2020, with operating costs slashed by 25% and investments by 50%. However, Tallinn “continued and even sped up some strategic investments, primarily the brand-new MRO and Cargo City in Tallinn,” said Tuvike. The new cargo city will feature a 36,000 m2 apron designed for cargo and MRO businesses and 36 hectares of land for development possibilities with a total indoor space of about 350 000 m2.
“All this with its modern infrastructure will make Tallinn a one of a kind MRO and cargo hub in Europe,” said Tuvike. “We are already in a dialogue with several interested companies and some of the development area is already reserved.” In addition, Tuvike said that development is also ongoing at Pärnu airport, which has 100 hectares of free land for development.
“The sky and imagination are the only limit for what can be done there,” said Tuvike. “We are dreaming about an Asian cargo gateway to Northern Europe in Pärnu, Estonia.”
