Estonian Academy of Security Sciences

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences is a professional higher education institution administered by the Ministry of the Interior and serves as Estonia’s centre for education, research and development in the field of internal security.

The Academy provides vocational education, professional higher education, master’s degree programmes, continuing education, as well as research and development activities. It trains both future and serving police officers and border guards, rescue workers and emergency response coordinators, prison officers, tax and customs officials, as well as researchers and experts in the field of internal security.

A distinctive feature of the Academy is that it brings together, within a single educational institution, a substantial part of Estonia’s education, practical training, research and development activities related to internal security and national security.

Estonia’s security begins at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. In addition to acquiring professional knowledge and skills, students develop a clear understanding of national security, responsibility and their own role in ensuring the security of the state.

The Academy’s research activities are situated at the intersection of policy-making, practical application and academic research. The aim of its research is to support Estonia’s internal security and societal safety, analyse security trends, strengthen crisis resilience and contribute to the development of the internal security sector through evidence-based solutions.
